MCA Spain originated with current CEO Carlos Ripa, after a decade spent working in a family company linked to the retail food industry. It was in the mid-1980s when Ripa developed an individual and personal project to promote his local region of Mendavia, Navarre, by establishing a preserves company working with fruit, vegetables and fish that went on to take its place among the highest ranks of the Spanish agro-food industry.
Such a spectacular success story would not have been possible without a first-rate team and unflinching commitment to excellent customer service. With only a dozen members of staff in 1980, today the MCA Spain team totals over 1,200 around the world during harvest periods, helping make the company a point of reference in the international preserves industry.
Success and recognition
MCA Spain is currently positioned among the top ranks of the preserves industry with a turnover of more than 35 million euros in 2014. We export 20% of our production to over 30 countries and operate in markets across all of Europe, Africa, North and South America and Asia, with this foreign outreach key to our success.
Despite the focus in the early days on offering a complete range of canned vegetable, in recent years MCA Spain has placed a strategic focus on the three so-called “jewels”of the Ribera Navarra region: Tudela artichokes, Navarre asparagus and Lodosa Piquillo peppers, points of reference for Navarre haute cuisine on a global stage.
Such an emphasis on haute cuisine has not prevented the company from incorporating new product lines, some as closely related as mushrooms and pickles, and others representing previous experience in the preserves sector, such as sauces, jams and fish and seafood preserves, as well as a growing range of organic products. canned vegetable do however form the basis of the company’s activities; both in terms of production (with MCA Spain the country’s leading D.O.P. Navarre asparagus producer) and in terms of sales.
Such success is down to both an unwavering emphasis on customer service and the high quality across the entire product range, as well as our desire to transport our finest products to every corner of Spain and the world, by means of an extensive network of over 280 distributors and around 3,000 points of sale.
